The American and British versions of the film have different endings. In the U.S., Ash returns to the present and continues to fight the evil dead (he's last seen fighting a beast in a department store). In the U.K., Ash swallows a drink that puts him to sleep for many years, only to awaken as the sole survivor of a post-apocalyptic world.
