Shaun of the Dead (2004)
To Shaun's (Simon Pegg) surprise, the Winchester '73 rifle really isn't a prop, and using it, Shaun dispatches some of the zombies, but they overrun the place anyway. Shaun and Liz (Kate Ashfield) are the only ones to make it out of the bar alive (and not zombified). Escaping through the basement, they're prepared to hack their way through the dead when the army shows up and mows down every zombie they see.
Soon, the zombies are brought under control — we see in quick TV cuts that our crazy world has assimilated zombies into its culture of talk shows, game shows, etc. (we almost hear what caused the outbreak, but somebody was a bit too eager with the remote — in the movie, that is).
Shaun & Liz settle down with each other, in love, but also within an existence that doesn't get farther than staying home watching TV and making occasional forays to the homes of the dead for some unwanted stuff. Telling Liz he's going out, we see Shaun getting some down time playing video games with a zombie.
Now that I've ruined everything, watch it anyway — definitely buckets of gore and laughs in every shot. — Thanks to Ari Rottenberg!
