What’s This?

Wha…? Another blog?

Ah, not just another blog! This is the new and improved Amuse Yourself!, which has been treating you to the most amusing, funnestiest goodies the World Wide Web (yep, that’s what “WWW” stands for, youngsters!) has to offer, since 1996.

It’s been a long time since all our most popular stuff was online. There are reasons for that — like, the Russian message board whose members were so entertained by our Celebrity Symmetry feature, they all hot-linked our images, sending our bandwidth charges soaring into the bazillion-dollar-a-month bandwidth range (so we removed Celebrity Symmetry). Over time, we took a whole lotta stuff down, with the promise to bring it all back someday.

Well, today’s the day! After a lot of thinking about how to do it, that would be the easiest for both you and for us, this is it, old (& new) friends & fans: blog-style!

This section of Amuse Yoruself! — which, ever-so-creatively, is called The Blog — is where you’ll find the old classics you’ve missed for so long, as well as every new and wonderful thing we discover that we just must share with you, lest we burst.

Two of our most popular features — Movie Spoilers and 10048: The World Trade Center Movie Project — are right where they’ve been for the past few years. Neither one is ready for a complete re-launch, and neither one is accepting new additions at this moment, but they will be, soon. And if you can’t want to contribute a movie spoiler or WTC sighting we don’t have, you can do it right here, on this page, by using the comment link below.

‘Smatter of fact, this here page is where we want to hear from you about all the wild and wonderful things you’ve found on the Wild Wicked Web, and want to share with a broad (“broad” as in “wide,” not as in anything else, you nasty thing!) audience, and would like to see us mention.

Here’s the deal:

• We want to know about stuff that is entertaining — that (as our slogan says) takes “your mind off your own harrowing life.” This world we live in can be pretty poopy at times (and lately, it’s pretty poopy most of the time). We want to be happy, and we want to make our visitors happy.

• That does not mean we want fluffy kittens all the time (although we definitely want fluffy kittens; we are suckers for fluffy kittens). Edgy, even creepy stuff is welcome, as long as it is amusing, and wouldn’t get a rating of (much) more than PG-13.

• We don’t want depressing. That doesn’t mean we rule out politics (are you kidding? poli-tickers, from both sides of the aisle, provide an endless source of amusement!), but we don’t want, say, anything deadly serious that will sap all hope from any of our of visitors, and cause him or her to jump off the nearest bridge. If in doubt, ask yourself if it’s ironic or cynical. Irony = good. Cynicism = usually not so good.

• Yes, you can plug your own Web site, if you have something uniquely amusing to share. If your sole purpose is to spam, we’ll block you from every talking to us again. (We really, really, really hate spammers.)

So, use the comments link below, and let us know what you’d like to see featured here!
